This week, we focus on the power of your voice and your leadership at home.
The White House recently shared a new National AI Policy. It says parents are the best ones to guide their children through the world of AI. Our Wednesday newsletter explained why this role belongs to you. Now, it is time to take action.
Most families have not had a real conversation about AI at home yet. Even so, children are already using it for school, for answers, and for help. This week’s activity is a simple way to start that talk before the busy summer months arrive.
How It Works
AI is already part of your child’s daily life.
Research shows most teens use AI, often more than parents realize. Some even turn to it for support.
At the same time, school rules are still changing. Summer is coming, which means more free time and more decisions about how AI is used.
This is the moment to step in to guide them.
💠 Your 10-Minute Starting Point
You do not need to be an expert. You just need to ask.
Try this: “Have you used AI for school or anything else recently?”
💠 Listen First
Let them answer first.
No judgment.
No correction.
Just listen.
You are listening to how they use AI, what they think is okay, and what they might not be telling you yet.
This is where guidance begins.
💠 Your Role
Your job is not to shut it down or have all the answers. Your role is to guide.
Help your child think about when AI is helping them learn versus when it is just doing the work for them.
Talk about what feels right based on your family values.
💠 One Simple Next Step
Before the end of the week, agree on one thing as a family.
Say: “This is how we will approach AI right now.”
Keep it simple.
For example: We use AI to learn, not to shortcut. If we are unsure, we talk about it. We show how we used AI, not just the final answer.
Why It Works
💠 Sparks Rich Discussion: This activity opens the door. It helps you find out what your child is thinking and how they handle new technology when you aren't there.
💠 Champions Human Experience: National policies create big rules, but your family creates the real meaning. This activity shows that your relationship is the most important layer of guidance.
💠 Builds Identity: By talking about what is allowed, you are building a shared understanding. You are helping your child become future-ready.
💠 Fosters Connection: It is a low-pressure way to show your child that you are a mentor who wants to help them succeed in a changing world.
Parent Tip
Focus on listening more than talking. The best part is hearing how your child sees the world. When they explain how they use a tool, you learn exactly where they need your wisdom.
Ask: "What made you decide to use AI for that task?"
The answer will help you guide them better.
Family Extra
If you want more clarity, complete your full FAMILY AI GAME PLAN. It will help you align with school expectations and define what is Allowed, Not Allowed, and Allowed with Guidance. This is a great way to prepare for summer when daily routines change.
