DISCOVERING AI: Igniting Human Potential
By Amy D. Love, Founder of DISCOVERING AI and of the Global FAMILY AI GAME PLAN initiative
For years, parents have been navigating technology without a clear playbook.
We saw it with the internet.
We saw it with smartphones.
We saw it with social media.
Each wave moved faster than the last. And each time, families were left to figure it out in real time.
Now, with AI, the pace has accelerated again. What once took years is now happening in months, even weeks. And children are not waiting to engage with it.
Recent research reinforces this reality. While about half of parents say their teen uses AI chatbots, nearly two-thirds of teens themselves (64%) report using them. Just over half of teens say they have already used AI for help with schoolwork, and a growing number are turning to AI for emotional support. At the same time, more teens believe AI will have a positive impact on their lives than a negative one.
There is a gap here.
Not just in usage.
In awareness.
And that gap is where guidance matters most.
This is not emerging.
It is already here.
So the question has been lingering:
Who is responsible for guiding our children through this?
The White House just gave a clear answer, reinforcing what DISCOVERING AI has been focused on for several years.
Parents are.
Not as observers. Not as optional participants. As engaged mentors and leaders in this moment.
In its national AI policy framework released on March 20, 2026, the White House made something explicit: parents are best equipped to guide their children's digital environment and upbringing.

Released on March 20, 2026
This is important to understand for what it is, and what it is not.
This is not law. It is legislative guidance, a set of recommendations for Congress to act on. And it is a strong signal of where things are heading.
The framework calls for protections. It calls for safeguards. It calls for AI platforms to reduce harm and provide meaningful tools for families.
And at the same time, it acknowledges something many parents have already been living in real life.
There is no single place where this gets solved.
Not by government alone.
Not by schools alone.
Not by technology companies alone.
Each has a role to play. Platforms are expected to build safer systems. Congress may act to strengthen protections. Schools will continue to adapt as they integrate AI into learning.
And none of those replace what happens at home.
Because AI is not waiting for legislation.
It is already part of your child’s world.
It shows up in homework. In how they research. In how they write. In how they solve problems. In how they think.
This is where the conversation shifts.
The most important layer of guidance is not regulatory.
It is relational.
It lives in the conversations you have with your child. It shows up in the expectations you set, the values you model, and the decisions you make together about how AI is used.
This is not about assigning blame.
It is about recognizing responsibility, and more importantly, recognizing opportunity.
Because while there is no silver bullet, there is something far more powerful.
A parent who is engaged.
A family that is intentional.
A home where AI is not avoided or outsourced, rather it is understood, discussed, and guided.
This is exactly why intentional parenting in the Age of AI matters so much.
Not because you need to become an expert overnight.
Because your child needs guidance that reflects your family’s values, aligns with what is happening in school, and prepares them for a world that is changing quickly.
And ultimately, this is about something even bigger.
Our role as parents is to prepare our children to be future-ready. To thrive as adults. To contribute meaningfully to society. To live as their best selves in a world that will look very different from today.
This is where having a FAMILY AI GAME PLAN™ becomes essential.

Not as a rigid set of rules.
As a shared understanding.
A way to bring clarity to what is allowed, what requires guidance, and where to pause. A way to align your home with your child’s school expectations. A way to move from reacting in the moment to leading with intention.
The role of parents in AI was always going to matter.
Now it is clear that there’s the Cavalry isn’t coming along to save the day.
The families who choose to engage now will be the ones who help their children navigate this moment, and be truly future-ready because of it.
